Message from the Embassy

On May 8, 2017, Koreans went to the polls and elected a new president, Moon Jae-in of the Democratic Party of Korea. President Moon took office on May 10 and will make his first official visit to the United States this week. President Moon will speak with President Trump about pressing issues of regional security and the Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement’s (KORUS FTA) five years of success. The Embassy staff look forward to welcoming President Moon to Washington, D.C. on his first state visit.

Korea-U.S. Trade and Foreign Direct Investment Highlighted in June

June has been an exciting month for Korean businesses looking to invest in the United States, export Korean products, or import U.S. products to the Korean market. This month the Korean International Trade Association (KITA) and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) hosted events that highlighted the importance of a strong bilateral Korea- U.S. trade relationship. Last week was also the SelectUSA Investment Summit, which convened over 2,500 participants from more than 70 markets and 52 U.S. states and territories. During the SelectUSA summit, KOTRA hosted an Investment Forum that included one-on-one meetings between Korean businesses and the economic development offices of several states to discuss potential partnerships and ventures.
