S.I. Tech

Batavia, Illinois

Profile: S.I. Tech, established in 1984, was one of the first fiber optic manufacturing companies. Today, it manufactures a vast array of fiber optic communications equipment for interconnectivity applications. Its products are used by militaries, OEMs, factories and other businesses.

Trade: S.I. Tech ships its products to more than 40 countries worldwide. The company started exporting to Korea in 1995 when it was approached by Samsung Heavy Industries about creating fiber optic motor controls for cranes used to build and load ships. Many of its current customers in Korea – including EreTech Co., Vito Company and Joowon Industries – buy its products for use in cell phone electromagnetic interference, electromagnetic compatibility and radio frequency interference testing, as well as other control and instrumentation applications.

Growth: Over the past eight years, S.I. Tech has seen significant growth of its business with Korea. The company is now looking for a distributor or agent in Korea to help it continue to expand. The FTA, which includes intellectual property protections, also helps to protect S.I. Tech’s products and make Korea an increasingly attractive market.

Korea is an important market for us as we continue to grow our business. The sophistication of the market, combined with Koreans’ appreciation for high-quality and specialized products, create significant opportunities for us there."

--Ramesh Sheth, President, S.I. Tech, Inc.
